FIRST WEEK GUIDE FOR THE GYM

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR YOUR FIRST WEEK AT THE GYM

The first time at the gym can be daunting but it really doesn’t need to be, we all have to start somewhere. This is a new adventure and chance to learn a new set of life skills!

These basic tips will help you feel more comfortable for your first times at the gym and have you exercising like a regular in no time.

Fuel Up

To make the most of your gym time you’ll want to avoid eating a big meal 60-90 mins before you start. Working out on a full stomach can leave you feeling nauseous or give you cramps and is just asking for trouble.

With that said, being properly fuelled is essential to having a good training session. Some healthy carb snacks an hour or so before you begin will give you the energy you need to make the most of your time. Some fabulous options include a banana and nut butter or a few raw nuts and a piece of fruit.

Prep Yourself

Being well prepared will make you much more comfortable. Wear comfortably clothes that will allow you to move freely, will stay put, won’t cause you to overheat and shoes that have good support and grip. Don’t forget a water bottle and a towel as you’ll need these once you get your sweat on!

Avoid Busiest Times

If you’re new to working out avoiding the busiest times will allow you more space and less wait times for equipment. Busy times will vary location to location but 4-7 is the most common peak time as work is finished and school is out. You can always ask the staff as they’ll know their location best.

Book A Personal Training Session

If you are serious about making the most out of your gym, yet you have no idea where to start, it is your best option to book some personal training sessions. A good personal trainer will work with you to come up with a plan that will work for you while helping you achieve your specific goals, as well as teach you proper form and equipment use.

Unsure? Ask!

If you need help with certain equipment or want suggestions of where to start then ask the staff! Most gyms are happy to provide you with a free tour of the gym and the equipment, remember the staff are employed to help you have the best experience possible. Anytime you have questions don’t be shy!
